My point, of course, is some men can’t stand the fact that his woman doesn’t NEED him. A have a friend who is about to go through a divorce. She tells me her husband is upset she doesn’t NEED him. My reply is “why would a man want a woman who NEEDS him? What would happen if he left this world early? Where would his needy woman be then?”

Sigh. I’d rather be wanted than needed.

Wow! I stumbled across your blog and zeroed in on this post. I can definitely relate. Men, it seems, have a built in nomad mentality. There must also be a ‘control’ gene which makes them want to rule or ‘take care of’ the women in their lives to some degree. It must be difficult for them to reconcile a woman who is independent (doesn’t NEED them) and is as intelligent as he is.

Some guys can handle it – indeed strive on it. Other get freaked out.

laken: thank you for that. that party thing sounds totally brutal and i’m sorry you ever had to experience that. i confess that i am less surprised by high school cruelty than adult cruelty because i always kind of think that school is where people try out different reactions… ignoring/cruel/running/confrontation/whatever and figure out waht works and waht doesn’t.

i expect more mature responses from people with grey in their eyebrows.

How did he cover up his unreality so well to begin with? So sorry this happened. You were sooo excited and happy for a brief moment. and you truly deserve it. You are right.
